    If you see yourself one day joining the next generation of film scholars, then we can help you get there. In the program, you’ll:

    • Engage with film history, theory and criticism

    • Develop the ability to express your ideas in writing and join the discourse

    • Gain a critical perspective on ambitious, contemporary films and analyze where society is taking cinema — and vice versa.

    Graduates will have the skills to enter the industry as a critic, reviewer or archivist.

  • A vibrant and vital part of Dodge College, Animation and Visual Effects (AVE) offers one-on-one mentorship with animation legends, and unparalleled access to industry expertise and opportunity in three areas of major study: 2D animation, 3D animation and visual effects. Animation students collaborate with film students on virtual production workshops utilizing our LED wall and motion capture systems; supervise VFX on live-action projects; and work with screenwriters, voice actors and producers to direct their own animation projects.

  • Prepare for a career as a composer with a program that emphasizes technical facility, creativity and the development of your own artistic voice.

    You’ll learn modern approaches and techniques of music making while broadening your musical horizons through the academic study of music theory, music history and music technology. You'll also be able to choose an emphasis in either concert music or electroacoustic music.

    In this program, you will:

    • Become fluent in musicianship skills, including music theory, aural skills and sight reading.

    • Learn about different musical styles and historical eras.

    • Generate a portfolio of original compositions for various ensembles and media and present them publicly.

    • Develop an understanding of musical performance and a sense of professionalism when rehearsing and presenting your work.

  • The application process differs for first-year and transfer applicants. Additionally, certain programs and departments require a Creative Supplement along with your application. Use the links below for step-by-step instructions and deadlines on applying to the university.

    The Creative Supplement allows you to demonstrate your artistic talent as part of the application process. If you are applying to a program within a college or department below, you must submit a Creative Supplement for review by the department and faculty:

    ·        College of Performing Arts

    ·        Dodge College of Film and Media Arts

    ·        Department of Art (excluding Art History)

  • Attending Dodge College could be more affordable than you think. More than 80% of Chapman students receive financial aid.

    In addition to Chapman financial aid, Dodge students can also receive financial aid directly from Dodge College. Here’s how: 

    Dodge Talent Scholarships

    We award talent scholarships to certain students during the application process. We base our decisions on the Creative Supplement portion of your application.

    You are automatically considered for a talent scholarship just by applying to Dodge. You don’t have to fill out any additional applications.

    If you are awarded a talent scholarship, you will receive  $2,000–$5,000 per year for four years as long as you maintain good academic standing.

    Dodge Talent Scholarships are only available to first-year applicants. They are not available to transfer students.

    Dodge College Awards and Grants

    Once you are a student at Dodge College, you can apply for awards and grants to help fund your student productions. These can help you with everything from research to production costs.
