My PBE Experience (2024)
The second, bi-annual Pacific Bonsai Expo also marks my anniversary of my bonsai journey. It did not disappoint.
I had volunteered on the eve of the Saturday opening, a few hours of security as well as previewing the exhibition.
SBBK peers/mentor joined me to carpool and walk through the collection—Roy M & Val M.
We had a number of discussions of my goals and how to achieve them. Val & Gio both saw a lot of learning from Adam Toth. The second Saturday of each month, Adam hosts a San Bruno 8 hr workshop (~$120), if space allows. Val offered to let me try out 1/2 of one of her sessions. If there is no space that Adam may let me drop into his garden off cycle. Val introduced me to Adam and vouched for me.
His advice is that relative to one’s age and how much time they will have to develop good trees, at my age I should invest in older, better trees to develop and be show ready.
In reflecting that—my goals this year will be to:
Try out 1/2 session w Adam, and get in queue for future workshop series.
Visit local shows or put the word out for trees needing work but more are more mature.
