This is how it started…
There is a social-media trend in showing humble beginnings of a project and then compare it with a reveal of “how it’s going”. Two roadside truck-bought bonsais got me hooked—but I don’t expect much change in these over time. At the point of this post, I am three months in and collected a few (cough) small trees:
Japanese Black Pine (1 young tree + 3 seedlings)
Eastern White Pine (3 seedlings)
Dwarf Mugo Pine (split into 2)
Ezo Spruce
Dwarf Sawara Cypress
Rough Bark Japanese Maple
Roto Hime Japanese Maple
Dwarf Japanese Maple seedlings
Trident Maple seedling
Boxwood
Manzanita
Procumbent Nana Junipers (3 pre-bonsai)
Gingko Bilbao seedlings
Japanese Larch seedlings
Japanese Maple, mature and a project tree to propagate from
Podocarpus, mature and a project to air-layer etc
Redwood Yamadori seedlings
Seedlings arriving within the week, Dogwood, Bald Cypress, Hornbeam, Akebono Cherry, Japanese Elm,
I do not think they will all survive and not sure which will need more care than others. With most being very young, affordable and in multiples—I can experiment in styles or build my skills in learning to care for them.
