Juniper Tip Blight
Observed some foilage illness on a branch or small parts of an otherwise healthy juniper. Other than removing dead foilage, asked my mentor Val M.
“Juniper tip blight is a common fungus that acts like its name; killing or damaging at the growing ends.
Fungicides are necessary and you need to rotate them.
Clearys 3336F can be purchased on Amazon and mixed up and sprayed. Clearys also comes as a granule that can be applied to the soil.
Other choices for your rotation could be copper sulfate (labeled organic but considered toxic to humans so wear protective gear), mancozeb also available on Amazon.
In the winter months, spraying lime sulfur a month apart (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day) will give the best protection for the following year.
Good luck with the junipers, and don’t worry too much! After the spray, plenty of new growth will take over!”
phomopsis juniper tip blight which is 16-24oz per 100 gallons. use an inexpensive two gallon pump sprayer from Home Depot or osh.
When spraying any plant, I make sure tree is well watered before the spray. Spray should cover all surfaces of foliage and branches and trunk.
The directions say 16-24oz/100gal of spray. So reduce to one gallon gives us .16-.24oz/1gal. Then I convert ounces to teaspoons with a ratio of 6tsp/oz gives you .96-1.44tsp/gallon.
So roughly, one to one and a half teaspoons per gallon of spray.
Supposed to be safe with a so called triple rinse. So, empty what you’re spraying onto waste ground (not a drain). Fill half with water. Shake. Pressurize and spray. Repeat twice.
I use same sprayer for fungicide and insecticide but never something like roundup!
