Unique Tree On Rock
Shared on FB showing amazing, non-traditional tree on rock planting, or better as Trunk Into Stone.
I believe a straight deciduous trunk is split down the length, but opened as a book. Wrapping up and around a vertical stone and likely binding tightly with raffia or cloth—applying great pressure. Possibly using cut paste (from the tube) to encourage healing and prevent fungal or pest damage. Not sure if muck was used, as tertiary roots are not observed—merely callus merging with the stone. After branches are developed, it appears very much like literati style.
