One Experience Of Applying to an Arts Program
Paola Kassa (YouTube) shared her experiences to help prospective art students. Here are a few notes:
Don’t feel intimidated that your portfolio needs to demonstrate excellence in anything or everything. They are looking for potential or ability to learn what they can teach you.
Do the research—would your interests benefit from an Arts School or Liberal Arts School.
Request school brochures & packets, explore online campus tours. Visit prospective schools to see if you like or connect with the community and facilities.
For Art Schools, your portfolio is most important for potential and talent. For Liberal Arts Schools they may look more at your essays and grades first.
Some schools have specific pieces to be part of your portfolio, so do your research.
Your essay paired with your portfolio will help round out describing who you are as a potential student.
