One Experience Of Applying to an Arts Program

Paola Kassa (YouTube) shared her experiences to help prospective art students. Here are a few notes:

  • Don’t feel intimidated that your portfolio needs to demonstrate excellence in anything or everything. They are looking for potential or ability to learn what they can teach you.

  • Do the research—would your interests benefit from an Arts School or Liberal Arts School.

  • Request school brochures & packets, explore online campus tours. Visit prospective schools to see if you like or connect with the community and facilities.

  • For Art Schools, your portfolio is most important for potential and talent. For Liberal Arts Schools they may look more at your essays and grades first.

  • Some schools have specific pieces to be part of your portfolio, so do your research.

  • Your essay paired with your portfolio will help round out describing who you are as a potential student.
