SBBK Green Elephant

2023 first Green Elephant that I attended, as a fundraiser for the Oakland Bonsai Garden. A full house and lots of laughter. The donated trees ranged in maturity and value. Nothing peaked my interest, other than a Blue Atlas Cedar (starting at $200) and a mature Silverberry trained by Jerry (ending up around $160).a number of large pots and smaller ones, ranging in quality and price.

I ended up with a few young trees to develop, not of great value or cost—totally $85 for 4 plants. No regrets, other than instead bidding higher on one tree of greater value. Most pots ended up selling for a great price, but I currently have no immediate need for large pots.

Next year;

  • Save for one prime tree, up to $160

  • Buy bigger pots for next repotting season

Oct to dec 2023

  • No more new trees (only one more, if high quality stock, less than $150, of a species that I seek).

  • Raffles are okay

  • Start to free up bench space and donate unwanted trees at club meetings

  • Move cuttings and young stock to a distant bench

  • Create an ugly tree space, off to the side
