Timed irrigation. 1 min each day, 2x or 3X in extremely hot periods. High drainage soil, mostly 100-% black lava or a little akadama for maples. Cannot over-water.

He’s comfortable pruning maples, they are vigorous and heal wounds. “Don’t worry about cutting them. Cut the snot out of them, feed and grow them and don’t try to finish them right away, and you’ll be rewarded over time.”
